Intel Labs have entered into a new research collaboration with the Fashion Research Institute (FRI) to drive innovations that will make it easier for businesses and consumers to make use of virtual worlds. Through this collaboration FRI is providing visually compelling, highly detailed content to aid in Intel’s 3D Internet research and allow the company to learn what will be required in future computers and the next generation of internet software. Virtual worlds could reduce waste significantly in fashion design by eliminating the cost and materials needed to create and re-create prototypes until they are correct. They also allow the designer and manufacturer to review designs together in a virtual space over great distances. Read more here.
