    Default Netgear DGND3300?

Apologies, started many threads about this - but I just want peoples opinions from personal experience, friends experience or just knowledge on the Netgear DGND3300.

They are in PC World for £79.99 which is not bad. It avoids interference which I believe is my main issue.

    Thanks guys.

    Do you have interference?

I have the DGN3500. It is a bit cheaper than that box.

A quick look at the DGND3300 suggests that it does not have GB LAN. I assume that you want that sort of thing because you need LAN.

I don't have interference issues. Live out in the sticks. But do want fast ethernet.

The interference thing isn't really important. Just uses 5GHz instead of 2.6GHz that it normally uses.

How is the WiFi range at the minute? 5GHz is much worse than normal when it comes to range.

If you want a reliable router buy a Billion 7800N - heard only good things about it.

Don't go for exotic "never heard of them" brands unless you really need what they offer.

Netgear isn't perfect, but it is one of the few suppliers of network kit that has been around for some time and does not provoke extremes on either side.

I'm more fussed on getting the wireless network great. For streaming Sky Go etc.

When you say you have interference, do you know where this is coming from and can you not minimize it or change channels?

If there are a lot of other strong networks interfering, try using WirelessNetView to establish which channels they are using, then switch yours as far as possible (at least 3 channels away) from the strongest ones.

The worst interference that I have come across has always been from Sky Magic Eye systems or older baby monitors. If you have any of those try changing the channels on them to see if it helps, or just switch them off.

Billion certainly aren't an "exotic brand", they've been around since 1973. They mostly make business routers which are like normal routers, only designed to handle more data without breaking and don't have pointless gimmicky features on.

I've had four Netgear products before.

One of them crashed every 5 minutes.
The next one lasted a few years before the DHCP server completely died and would stop assigning IP addresses randomly.
My Dad had another Netgear in the office, would crash within half an hour due to heat.
Our current router (DGN2000) is still working but also has heat issues and stops working under high load.

Problem we have is that we use A LOT of bandwidth.

My desktop is either streaming music, playing games or downloading games from Steam.
My Brother is constantly streaming anime.
My Sister is forever on spotify.
My Dad is often downloading Windows Server and connecting to VPNs for work.

That is a lot of things for a router to do at once and most of them just cringe.

Ironically the best router I've had so far is a £25 TP-Link but the modem in it sucks.

Finding a router that can handle loads of usage without melting is proving quite hard.

I will be the only one streaming in the house. I just want Sky Go to work, or HD youtube! It's not a big ask. I really appreciate the input so far, I think I will go in and ask PC world what their returns policy is. If it works I'll keep it, if it doesn't I want my money back!

Whats this mate? I have one set of homeplugs which have improved one PC, but it's still not amazing. And the iPad won't do Sky Go properly.

Yeah, I refer to homeplugs as powerline adapters.

I'm not sure how far away Wireless 802.11ac is.

Should be a fairly respectable step up from Wireless-N.

Anyone else spot the logical flaw in there?

Aria doesn't stock them. Maybe that isn't important.

I have an Edimax box used as a wireless extender. It works, but is a pig to configure.

That is where Netgear seems to do well. The web interface is better than most. And it has steadily improved over the 10 years or so that IO have used their kit, which has never failed on me, just been superseded by newer technologies for wireless, ADSL etc.

You're saying that because Aria don't stock them - they are an exotic brand?

Aria only sell two NETGEAR products and the rest are all TP-Link by the looks of things.

I highly recommend getting the "ASUS RT-N56U" I was also looking at the netgears priced over £100, looking at reviews they seam to be average. I came across the asus and noticed quite a few websites giving it a very high score/rating, I've had the router for a month or so now and I have to say its excellent, no problems at all, signal is much better than my previous router (Belkin N1 Vision)

Edit: I did a quick google search and failed to notice your looking at a ADSL router ignore my post as the router above is for cable.
