I'd go for a 965 or 975 chipset mobo with a Conroe, and probably PC6400 RAM, but even as it stands there aren't many games that won't play smoothly at maximum settings

I would get half the RAM now and the rest once the prices have dropped early next year.

    965 chipset is good.

Graphics cards should drop in price when DX10 cards appear. I don't know exactly when that is but I don't think it's very long now. I guess the point is you can save money.

2 or 3 people here have never had a dead hard drive tho.. all maxtor

    Just playing devils advocate

Although, I am starting to lean away from maxtor now - The price difference doesnt seem as big as it used to any more, especially to justify what does appear to be a drive that is a bit luck of the draw if it lasts or not..! Listen to El_rob

Heh....take my advice, and go for a Raptor. Size ain't great for the money, but aside from memory, you'll never notice an upgrade more than a 10k drive with 16MB cache. Trust me.

Hell yeah Although I have to confess, I don't really have much time for much gaming these days - too much work. Tends to be UT2k4 Insta, if anything (or Jedi Academy, if I've got Windows on my machine at the time). If you get a chance, though, try one of these out - the Dell 2003FP is possibly my favourite monitor of all time, and they're hella cheap on Aria. Oddly enough, you tend to pay more for the widescreen versions, but if you work it out you actually get more screen real-estate on the standard 20.1\" (1600x1200 versions, anyway).

How about one of these guys. Just cost £5400 and you still need to buy a display, mouse and keyboard.

    The rich kids xmas present.
