Watching the news he was very much alive and then the next minute he was dead with a bullet hole in his temple.

Do you think he deserved to be summarily executed or should he have been put on trial? Does this reflect badly on Libya or was it a case of good riddance to bad rubbish?

He should have been put on trial but I think we all knew that if the rebels got hold of him first that wasn't likely to happen.

Watching the same thing on Sky News.

I saw the dad of a girl who was killed in the Lockerbie bombing saying it wasn't good as he'll get no answers to what happened and that Gaddafi should've gone on trial.

Loving how every nation is trying to claim it was them who stopped his convoy, yanks and french saying it was them.

But tbh having spent time in different middle eastern countries its like the middle ages but with guns.

Oh not sure Tony Blair is gonna care about those photos either, he made us a lot of cash selling him junk weapons.

He's gone, now give us all your oil for helping please.

He would of suffered allot more if he gone to trial. Killing him like that has just put his life as ease as he don't have to suffer serious torture and the like, potentially leading to death penalty etc.

I think it would have been impossible for him not to get shot before the trial. Thousands of rebels armed and all after him for so long, someone was bound to do it.

I don't think it is a good thing to give birth to a new country off the murder of the previous leader.

They should have referred him to the International Criminal Court.

Maybe he wouldn't be taken alive. They would have put him to death anyway, but yeah maybe we would have some answers.

Rumours of him begging for his life already, so this is going to run, also reports (unfounded from what I have heard) that he was shot in both legs and then the head.

TBH, I would of thought that the incoming power would of been desperate for him to stand trial to further increase their standing in eyes of the world.

They are probably pros and cons either way, I think the main one is if he was alive there will probably be the loyalists still fighting. But now he is dead he could be the perfect martyr.

But we shall find out in the coming weeks.

Dont know what he thought was going to happen, no one can start a huge fued then hide away the rest of their life and live happily ever after, not even Bin Laden!

he should have stood trial, but it was going to be the same outcome at the end of it to be fair

in ways he was Libya, but will be interesting to see what the americans really wanted out of it all

I hope it'll open Libya up to the rest of the world now.. I'd love to go there and look around some of the things that haven't really been accessible in recent years.. Things like the Roman cities that are still there - Sabratha and Leptis Magna are the two that I have heard of:

They are whole cities, which I think would be pretty amazing to see.. It makes you wonder what else is in that country which isn't as well known about..

I dont like the idea of arming and fueling a rebellion to overthrow a tyrant. Who knows how many of the rebels will just take the weapons and form new splinter groups that aren't looking to improve their country...
