And the great thing is DX10 will not work on XP. This seems like a ploy to force people to buy vista if they want DX10. That has got to be abuse of microsofts monopoly. No wonder microsoft is one of the most disliked companies.

As for quad core games on vista this is a long way off, game companys are having another trouble producing games for dual core processors and the use of quad core in not needed and it may not ever be used. Because one company shows off a demo like alan wake doesn't mean other manufactures will follow suite using a expensive way of producing games for quad core. The fact is the best core for games is dual core and until the game manufactures can come up with a to produce quad games cost effectly it will be years before quad core games become the norm.
I think all the hype about vista is going to lead to disappointment and large amounts of planned vista facilities have been dropped. A 10-15% drop in performance is huge and microsoft should of sorted out the problem before the programme was released.
I won't be buying it until I know its as good as xp now. I would like know why DX10 won't run XP. To me if DX10 did run on XP most people would stay with XP and not buy vista. The main reason for people to upgrade to vista will be DX10 and being able to play DX10 games. At the moment I don't need a different OS. Very clever way to get people to buy the new product. I don't believe that microsoft coundn't of developed DX10 to work with XP.
Microsoft reckon vista will speed up programmes 4 fold but not in real world games fps. When the review sites start their testing we will all know for sure.
What will happen if they all the site come out and say games don't play any better but are slower. I think it will put off many from buying vista.
I personally would love to see a performance boost from vista but all the signs are not pointing that way at the present time.

It's worth remembering that vista isn't even finished yet, so it's not possible to say how much faster/slower it is. the beta/RC is exactly what it is, an unfinished version of the OS.

I don't like this anti-piracy feature on Vista.
Will have strict anti-piracy measures in place that will wreck a machine with an unlicensed copy. Not only that, but Microsoft will have access to all of your data through this anti-piracy system.
I am not worried about the unlicensed bit because I always think its best to have the real thing. But I can see microsoft ending up in court, a lot of privacy issues here and to say its to stop piracy is not good enough. Its no more than spying.
I can see me sticking with XP. Please don't say if you have nothing to hide nothing to worry about. I have always found that is what igronant people say. They don't grasp its not about hiding anything, its about not to having somebody spying on you. Today the authorities are worst than the old KGB in russia.
How long before governements want access and a simple comment in a letter ends with a knock on the door from the police.
Microsoft is truely the most hated company in the world and their arrogance knows no boundaries.
How will installing Windows Vista give away personal details?
Microsoft have made an excellent Operating system.
Small Business Server
Microsoft 95- XP
Media Centre Edition
Now the reason Microsoft have had to add this Anti-Piracy software to there new operating system is because so many people have illegal versions of it.
So what your saying is Microsoft should let these people get away with free £60 - £300 software?
The people you should hate aren't Microsoft, but infact the people who download illegal copies of Windows XP!![/i]

I've always thought that Microsoft overcharge for their operating systems. But something recently occured to me.
How much does a new PC game cost? £35. How much use do you get out of it? 20-30 hours if it's a good one.
How much will Vista cost? £200ish, something like that. How much use do you get out of it? Thousands of hours.
Good value for money I guess![]()

Exactly! Good post PP@Work 8)
In a way game makers can also be seen as causing these problems.
As basically all games and programmes are made to run on Windows people really haven't got the choice to choose another operating system.
Windows is that expensive really when you think about Barley's post.![]()
