Question Troll, troll in the dungeon!

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-14898564

As per most articles relating to what is essentially computer related pop-culture, some parts are off - but is being sent down too far, especially given the term and its applications are so broad?

i think in some circumstances trolling can be quite harmless.....but really the way in which this guy did it, he was being vicious and set out to really hurt people

i guess you can argue it both ways and say, well all trolls are trying to be hurtful

but i think he took it too far, and in a few instances.

think they tried to make an example out of this sort of behavior as its simply cyber bullying

I think the idea of trolling is to get a reaction out of another person. It doesn't need to hurtful but there will always be sadists.

Trolls don't actually care, they're that deluded.
I find it quite sad and pathetic.

TBH when I read what he said I initially laughed, but then I'm used to dealing with trolls and have trolled myself on several occasions when the situation demanded it. Years of Frankie Boyle have also lowered my humour standards . I think to post that on the girls fb memorial wall is very disrespectful though and it's right that he should be punished for it.

trolling on a forum about a point of view etc is to be expected and can be on funny at times but the trolling of memorial pages etc is just too much and the people that do that need a serious beating or need to seek some form of help for being sick an twisted in the head

This type of thing is simply bullying for those who are bigger cowards than those who do it face to face. I suspect the perpetrators are weak and sad individuals who are failures in life.

saw this in the paper yesterday. and also today there was a 2 page spread on 'trolling' , I agree the trolling that fella did was out of order and he is a pathetic waste of space, but it annoys the hell out of me how the media make such a huge deal out of it. if it's one thing the media should learn about trolls.....DO NOT FEED THEM

Anyone feel sorry for Duffy? He has Asperger's syndrome, he doesn't understand that what he is saying is wrong, it doesn't make it OK but people/the media shouldn't be slating him so much for it.

For those who don't know what Asperger's is:

Asperger syndrome or Asperger's syndrome or Asperger disorder (*/ˈɑːspərɡərz/[1] or /ˈęspərɡərz/[2]) is an autism spectrum disorder that is characterized by significant difficulties in social interaction, along with restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior and interests and limited empathy for their peers.

Reminds me of Simon (and I say this in an un-insulting manner) as it looks as though he doesn't quite understand how his posts come across.

personally i think that trolling is good and that the second we give edgeway on freedom of speech because of 'trolling' there will be another step towards the internet becoming pointless. people have their opinions and will share them regardless if anonymous or not. If there is a public post about something or whatever or whoever, people will share their opinions, and if they really dont care about the situation they will wind people up.. simple.. block them from posting on that particular thread. repeating offenders will run out of places to troll.

If they dont want trolls< then dont make the subject public and free to comment on..

lastly.. people jailed for it? seriously? personally i think that has already gone a step too far
