    Default SSD and Samsung Spinpoint?

    Hi there,

I've had recommended to me both the 1TB Samsung Spinpoint F1s, but also that I should consider (with my unmodest budget) investing in a SSD which I could stripe for my OS and bigger games, etc. I've a few questions, though. If I were going to get a SSD, I'd probably invest in one of these OCZ 64GB drives - but I don't really know what the difference is (other than 4GB of space) between the OCZ 64GB Core Series SSD and the OCZ 60GB V2 Core Series SSD which is about £25 more expensive?

Also, would this combination of drives be a good idea? Could I put them in a RAID0 array (or similar)? How would I want to do so? (or how would I want to stripe them?) Etc.

Edit: Or, for that matter, would I be better off, you think, just buying a couple of the Samsung Spinpoints (or sim.) and not going SSD at all, at this point?

And advice at all would be eagerly welcomed and appreciated!

SSd's are a bad idea, unless you have a lot of money to burn, you should not worry about SSD's, get a couple of F1's in a raid setting if you really want performance and space on a budget, until SSD's come down in price, leave them be lol.

that was kind of what I was thinking, looking at the £170 pricetag on that SSD! I'm grateful for the advice!

    Thanks,

You will spend a bit less on two 1TB F1's and will get amazing performance and far more space.

High read/write speeds are one thing, but these come at a cost with RAID - latency.

I've found through my research that games that continually load benefit from lower latency rather than higher read/write speeds. MMOs run amazingly well on my SSD.

games fullstop run faster on ssd.

the 0 seak times do wonders as games load lots of smaller files.
