its optical... but manual optical zoom
My fuji has this zoom ring which extends out of the camera as you zoom - very fast and accurate i find >>>
It may well be but you only get a couple of seconds to get a plane going past at 150mph just where you need it

Wasnt much, about a ton
100% of my shots are zoomed! Sometimes they're zoomed out as far as the camera will go though. With my hoverfly shot, that was zoomed in a bit, otherwise it'd do a runner (flyer?).
I've got a very zoomed in shot of some sunbathing ducks because I couldn't get close to them without spooking them, and I wanted them to fill a good percentage of the frame. Also the ground was marshy and I started to sink as I got closer. I'll see if I can find that photo.
