    Default XFX 5830

    Hey Guys

My new XFX 5830 arrived from aria yesterday. First of really nice looking card but one problem.....

    The temps seem really high
    40+at idle
    85+ under full load

    These are at stock clocks

Seems awful high to me what do you guys think?

Idle is a tad high but that seems OK.

What are the actual load temps? And what are you testing it with? Furmark? Because bear in mind furmark puts a card under a much higher load than gaming will

Current CPU temp is 86oC in Control Centre at 99% activity while bitcoin mining.

IIRC that's just like folding isn't it? Which is quite a strenious task, try gaming and see what temps you get.

Yeah like folding so puts a lot of strain on the GPU. Is 86oC acceptable for 24/7 running?

    75 - 80C is normal load temps on a reference 5830.

What case and fans do you have?

Maybe turn them up a little.

Its a zalman z9 plus with

    1x120mm front fan blowing in
2x120mm side fans blowing in (including one directly onto the GPU)
2x120mm top fans blowing in across w/c rad
1x120mm rear fan blowing air out

so do't think I have a circulation issue lol

Reference cards are known to be hotter than aftermarket ones anyway, it'll be fine they can run up to 100C fine anyway.

Run dual 5830's full load 24/7 for a year or so with temps circa 80c.
    No issues.

If temps seem a tad high ensure you are setting fan speed manually....I have mine at 90-100% depending on the stress load of current dc project.

Clocking mem down if not needed can help temps a little too.
    Have quads will....Crunch Crunch Crunch!!!
    12 quads.....4 duals....3 singles....3 notebooks...and a partridge in a pear tree!!!
    GPU: 5970-5870-5 x 5770-2 x 5830-5850-2 x GTS 250-3 x GTX 460/4670....and a few retirees.

Wait, so is it 5x120mm in and 1x120mm out?

If so I would try switching the 2 top fans on the rad to vent out of the case as I imagine all they'll be doing is pushing hot air into the case faster than the exhaust can vent it.

This is exactly what i was thinking as i read it.
Hot air rises mate - would be better if the two top fans were pulling air up and out!

Not only that but the fans on the rad would be facing downwards and pushing warm air into the gpu.

I was gonna have the top fans pulling out but then I would be pulling warm air across my rad which I was advised elsewhere not to do

Not Bad for a 10Meg package lol.... But this is better

Turned the 2 rad fans over to pull out. CPU temp +3oC GPU temp +/-0oC

So think i will just put them back

Seems a bit high to me, could be a dodgy sensor or something though? Did you pull the plastic film stuff off the cooler?
