    Default New build not working

I finished my build about a week ago, i had a post on here a while back showing all my final components.. this is the link http://aria.co.uk/lucy/viewtopic.php?t=426

    I have;
Amd athlon 64 3800+ (Already Purchased, bulding pc around this)
    MSI K8N Neo4-F Socket 939
    320gb seagate 7200.10
    FORSA 6600LE 256Mb PCI-E
    Corsair Value Select 2x512MB PC3200
    Nec DVDRW LightScribe Black DVD-RW
Antec NEO HE430GB 430W Modular PSU
    ThermalTake Shark Black tower (VA7000BWA)

When i boot up the pc, all the fans turn on correctly but i just hear a set of beeps- 1 long 2 short, i checked on the msi website and apparantly it means graphic memory error. After about 3 reboots the pc booted and i got a visual display, i installed xp then the nvidea card drivers. Once restarted the resolution was set to 800x600 with 16 colours, it was appalling. I was unable to change the resolution and save it as a higher setting. The setings kept reverting back. I tried restarting but again i got the bios beeps and no visual dispaly. I sent the graphics card back to aria but it was tested unfaulty. Now im confused, im guessing its the motherboard, but they also said it might be the fact that there isnt enough power getting to it, but i have 430w? is this not enough? Could anyone help me before i send in my motherboard?
    Help would be greatly appreciated.

The power supply should be fine. Some 6 series graphics cards need an extra molex connector, does that particular one?

i had a 6600gt pcie gfx card and that didn't have an extra power connector so i wouldn't have thought the 6600le would need one. Have you triple checked you have all the power connectors fitted in the motherboard? Also check everything is seated properly in the respective connectors.

If you look in you mobo manual - it should tell you what that means ?

    I know it used too

*Edit* the normal rule of thumb that i can gather is that 6 series PCI-E cards do not need an external molex - AGP Ones do- PCI-E gives more power over the slot

that sounds more like a driver error to me , i think if it was a power problem , then the card would crash when it got into games etc. or not load up windows at all.

i would try downgrading the graphics drivers, or upgrading them. you can get them at nvidia.com , good luck.

    Just had a thought...

if you can get to device manager- check what sort of monitor it has installed.. uninstall it and let it do it again...

(Nvidia has limitations so they dont ruin your monitor with incorrect resolutions etc.)

Upgrading the driver should cure the problem, However make sure your mobo chipset drivers are installed and correct..

i dont know what chipset that mobo uses but often they can be quite fussy

Thanks for all of your help, im still waiting for aria to send my card back, its been nearly three weeks since i sent it in, to be honest im not best pleased with their service, usually there really reliable. Anyway, im not sure if could be a driver problem, would that mean the computer would boot up correctly? It Would explain the strange resolution problem though, im trying to get a pci-e card so i can test the board before sending it back.

    Thanks everyone!

Couple of older Hercules AGP cards in machines I look after freak out if the correct and up to date nVidea drivers are installed for them - so I let them simply roll on under the generic XP ones instead and they perform beautifully.

Sometimes a graphics card is plain and simple incompatible with one or two mainboards, and from a basics approach I'd be inclined to check that it isn't a factor in your build.

Also - have you checked your BIOS screen settings for AGP aperture etc and set them to correspond with your hardware?

Since you think it may be your motherboard which is causing the problem do bear in mind that the motherboard itself is controlled by the BIOS, and errors can sometimes be glaringly underlined in system performance.
