So power saving is the one thing Gigabyte are getting at Asus for?
To be honest power saving features are way down at the bottom of my list when I buy a gaming motherboard. I wonder if Gigabyte couldnt find anything to beat Asus with apart from this power saving thing.

but if your buying pcs for a whole corparation saving a few pence per pc per hour soon builds up over the whole corp.
most home user wont care but....tbh i think its all a con anyway, no publicity is bad and all that.
if i was that bothered my pc would be a via.

nearly all the new features appear on the higher end before they arrive at the lower end.
gigabyte do their power saving stuff on the latest revision of mine and i wouldnt say its more than a mainstream board.

Doesn't make much sense to me that the high end boards get power saving. Whats the point? It's like F1 cars with hybrid fuel engines and brake energy regeneration.
I think I just hate features I don't use but have to pay for![]()

I wouldn't have thought that the "battle" is going to be good for either camp, IMHO most people stick to a favored brand.
I used to use Gigabyte boards from my 1st Pentium board through to my last Gigabyte board wich was a Slot 1 P2 board LX chipset but in Baby AT formfactor. Form then I switched to Asus with the P2Bs and Cusl2 boards. Went bnack to Gigabyte with a NV2 board that died due to someone in the factory not taking off the cover over the TIM on the northbridge! From then switch to Asrock, who I must say have been very good, had over 6 of their boards, now trying my first MSI and so far been very impressed.
All this is going to do is perhaps push people away from both brands, so MSI, Abit (or what ever they are calling themselves now adays) Tyan etc will gain sales.

not sure it will effect the fanbois choice tbh as they will always stick to what thye know. i have no loyaties to any company other than the bank of marsey. i have had mobos from the same people as you with a couple from foxcon and another company i cant remmeber the name of but they went bust so...
i go with what i think is the best for the money at the time if it meets my needs.

Exactly, Thats the reason i got the MSI, compared to other boards with similar features it was, when i bought it, about £30 cheaper!
Why else would someone buy Asrock in those days, they seem to be moving up the quality stakes now using the latest "normal" chipsets
