Default Windows Vista - Few Questions...

With the new MS operating system around the corner (big corner).. Id like to plug a few questions if anyone would care to answer...

    1. Will you be upgrading to Vista the first month it is Launched?

    2. Persuming we are all geeks and going for the fully featured \"Ultimate\" edition... How much would you be willing to pay for it (Bear in mind XP Pro is around £90inc VAT)?

    3. How much do you think it will be?

    4. Are you going to be upgrading just for Vista (It wont install unless you have 512MB Ram!)?

Feel free to have a little rant about Vista here too... Think XP is perfectly tuned, and IE7 is just a clone of Firefox.. Discuss

    1. No

    2. I think GBP90 would be good, but

    3. I suspect it will be many times more

    3b. Linux FTW!

    Default Barge Pole

Dont think Ill be touchin it with a barge pole...for the first few months..prolly wait for......

    A. Initial teething probs ironing out.
    B. A sufficient price drop.
    C. Reports on the extent of its built in spyness.

Ill prolly be supplying it in new builds for clients...via demand for new OS

but personally on my machines, Im toying with the idea of going back a step, with a very small chopped down version of XP pro, does all I need it to do, till Im forced over to Vista, via the sneaky in-workings of MS.

    I hate sensationalism....
    But like the Murphy's

Yes i will be. I currently have my PC dual booted with Vista Beta. And as i work in I.T i have to make sure im up to date with the latest software and hardware

Everything will be provided by work, so i dont worry about the cost.

    [quote:b8d554d220=\"m0nk3y\"]
    3. How much do you think it will be?[/quote:b8d554d220]

Just the Vista Software? £120 for the Fully Featured. £90 Normal. £70 Cut Down.

    4. Are you going to be upgrading just for Vista (It wont install unless you have 512MB Ram!)?[/quote:b8d554d220]

The only PC's i use for personal use are higher spec than the minimal recommendation. The pc's that dont make the spec will be used are Linux machines.

XP has only just become totally stable, and for most people there is defiently no need to upgrade to Vista.

But if a client of ours buys Vista, i must be able to solve the problem, and that means understanding Vista.

 No real need for the little jibe at IE7! As i use it, and its a mix of Firefox and Opera. Firefox works on Vista so no need for that comment.

id like to have vista asap i dont know why its just something i like to keep ontop of

As for problems im sure they will have alot ironed out considering it had two public betas, and over 6 months developing these.

XP wasnt out recently? 2001 when i last checked?

XP has too many patches and loopholes now fixed- its beyond usable imho- you get a fresh install of XP Pro - then put all ur patches in and NOTHING ELSE, u can tweak the registry etc. but you wont get anywhere near the speed of the fresh install . . .

    1) Hopefully

    2) As little as possible

    3) £200-220, possibly more,

    4) No but i want a conroe system, by then quad core will come out so will have to assess financially

IE7 is a waste of time imho, stick to firefox IE beat everyone in the browser market years ago and now theyre losing grasp to other browsers they copy features from others - how nice

No way... There is a general rule where Microsoft are concerned. Never buy a brand new product from them - wait at least a month for the crucial bugs to be fixed, wait at least 6 months for the software to function as originally intended. Wait a year for the software to do what you were promised it would.

Ohh and wait 1 day for a million new viruses.

As it is i think XP Pro is overpriced for what it is... Personally i wouldnt be willing to spend over £100 for any operating system - especially one which will have a million pesky updates in its first month of life.

[quote:56b61053e6=\"m0nk3y\"]3. How much do you think it will be?[/quote:56b61053e6]

The cheapest will be about £80. The fully featured one about £220 (total guess on both)

[quote:56b61053e6=\"m0nk3y\"]4. Are you going to be upgrading just for Vista (It wont install unless you have 512MB Ram!)?[/quote:56b61053e6]

Dont need to... Only thing i'll need to upgrade is my graphics card to a DX10 one - unless DX10 doesnt make it onto AGP, in which case a new mobo too.

But i have the speed and RAM for it.

    -------------

I doubt i will ever use Vista unless some nice group of people come along and strip out the evil parts of it...Such as TCPA (Trusted Computing Platform Alliance), which gives selected people/organisations full control over your computer... Check this site for some scary stuff:
