Hello all, got a CM TX3 and the fan that came with it is very loud and responsible for 90% of the noise in my case, can anyone recommend a good 80 mm silent one that still preforms well at cooling?

80mm is quite small to make a quiet/silent fan, it has to spin at high rpm to move a worthwhile volume of air. If you can afford it, save yourself a lot of hassle and upgrade to a heatsink with a 120mm fan.
If you insist on sticking with 80mm, you could try something from Noiseblocker, Noctua, Be Quiet! or Scythe
The Xilence redwings are pretty quiet, as are the Lian Li fans I got with my V351 case. Or maybe the Noctua ones.
ooops meant 92mm, I'll check out some of those fans.
I'll keep an eye on this thread then too, because my CM Vortex Plus cooler came with the same fan as the TX3, so I know what you mean.
Its only quiet on idle, full load is a vacuum.

Just been fiddling and found lowering the fan speed down to 2000 rpm has a dramatic effect on the noise, it was at 3000 rpm idle, now will 2000 rpm be ok when gaming in a well ventilated case? the other fans are all operating at 1200rpm which seems to be there maximum.
Mine's running 2000RPM on idle, rising to about 3000RPM full load. What CPU are you running?

Mine seems to run at 3000rpm all the time, how do I stop it from doing this?
Change the fan control in the BIOS to PWM or Auto, thats what I've done. You might have to enable hardware fan control though.

?? I got the same cooler, and mine is very quiet. What is wrong with your system? high temp?
Mine now is on 1800rpm @36C on i7-860 idle.
nothing will be slient at 3000rpm btw
Well as I said I lowered it to 2000 rpm and it is still very noticable, 'tis ok, going to get a gelid tranquillo at some point, read about 15 odd reviews today and that seems to be the best cost / performance cooler that is also outstandingly quiet.
I don't have that choice, because the max height my case can accommodate for a CPU cooler is 126mm![]()

Still don't. The Vortex Plus fan mounting system is two clips which fit in the 92mm fan holes. They look like this (bottom right thin wires)
