    Default Wried or Wireless

My house mates currently have a Linksys Wireless-G ADSL Gateway router. How does a router effect internet speed if at all? Is it more reliable and faster for me to connect via cable or is wireless just as good?

    Thanks

Personally I would go Wired given the option.
But having said this Wireless has greatly improved.

I recently installed a D link Wireless G ,to feed a Wii,and I have to say I'm very impressed with the speed. Somehow internet browsing seems faster on the Wii than the PC the Wireless router is hooked up to!!

If you buy cheap wireless or cheaper wire, the wired version will win. If you buy expensive wired, it will not beat cheap wired... But thats dependant on so many factors. Thick walls will ruin your speed, and wired can have some DHCP problems sometimes, even when setup properly.

With my current setup in MOST rooms of the house...

1ms to ping router on wireless
    pretty much 0ms on wired.

effective speed on wireless 3.2MB/s (connection at 54mbps)
effective speed on wired 11.8MB/s (connection at 100mbps)

It all depends on the hardware you have really. For most things wireless isnt that different these days.

If your on a gigabit router then even better. Im on a 10mbps router switch, but get over 1mb speeds on it, confusing, i need a new switch put in.

I am a Telecom Engineer and wired is the faster, more secure and
more reliable way to go. It is time consuming to hard wire an entire house
but once it is done, you have a fast and reliable connection
anywhere you go. It is easy to do, just get a network starter kit and
    off you go.....

Or just get some homeplugs, best thing since slice bread. Would be lost without mine.
neater than cabling a whole house and better than wireless.
