    Default Upgrading a Tiny

I've got a Tiny computer with a Pentium 4 1.7 CPU on an MS6534 845 board. Any suggestions for an inexpensive upgrade to 2.4 or above would be appreciated. Something that's not going to destroy the rest of the innards E.

Honest Opinion Not worth it. (Reasons)

    1.) Waste of time.
    2.) Processor's hard to find.
3.) Current prices at the moment, build a whole new system.

    __

Now if thats just an Office machine, Spare machine.

    1.) Add more memory
2.) Use it as a file server
    3.) Emergencies
    4.) Give it to charity

    __

Now this is just my opinion. Im sure you could pay £40 - £50 for a higher spec'd Celeron - Pentium but i dont think its worth it.

It's none of the things you mention Belso, it's my main (and only) computer and it has been and still is an excellent piece of kit, never missed a beat, runs most of the things I need including 8Meg broadband but I wanted to use an add on that has a basic need for 2 Mhz and recommended 2.4.
Thought maybe a new mainboard and cpu would do the trick. E.

I thought Tiny were one of those companies that use their own style motherboards etc so you can't swap anything inside the PC, like Gateway used to do?

No, Tiny was independent but went into admin and Time took over their ashes. No connection with Gateway. (except that they both collapsed) E.

If that's a Williamette CPU you ain't gonna ever do much with the board as I doubt it would be compatible with the post 1.8Ghz P4 Northwoods, in which case all you can do is max out your system memory and get into Windoze services and turn off all the unnecessary baggage...

Hmm.... well its hard to recommend something.

Your motherboard has 2 SDRAM slots. Im thinking 2 x 512mb sticks but once you upgrade again, they will be useless.

It also has one AGP 4x Slot. When PCI-E is the new thing out so it isn't worth buying a new AGP card.

You seem to be doing ok for hard drive space at the moment so no problems there.

    You dont have a CD/RW let alone a DVD/RW.

    ______

    Cheap Option

Buy 2 sticks of 512MB SDRAM modules. Giving your pc 1GB which will give you a slight performance boost.

    Upgrade Later
    _____

    Best Option

Try selling your current computer to either a friend or family ect...

Thats £140 inc VAT from Aria.

Now you have a 40GB Hard Drive which can be upgraded at another time. And you can format and reinstall Windows.

You will need a new case, but im sure you can pick that yourself. Try to pick one with a Power Supply included, as that will be enough for this system.

You have a CD drive already which you can put in the new machine or you could pay an extra £30 for a DVD/RW.

Same goes for the Floppy Drive.

The motherboard has onboard video and a pci-e slot so you can upgrade to a graphics card after

Let me know what you think

I would suggest a decent branded PSU such as Antec.

I would normally recommend a decent PSU, but depending on budget a £40 - £50 PSU can be quite expensive.

Also recently i have to say, the PSU we have got with the cases from Aria have been superb.
