    Default External Storage

    Hi,

I am looking to find some external storage which can connect via esata to my main pc but my other two pc's can connect over the network to it as a NAS.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

Any help or advice would be much appreciated

Not sure matey - I reckon it's a possibility but I can't find any units which have eSATA and LAN - eSATA and USB/Firewire - USB/Firewire and eSATA - but not all three...

Why does it need esata? can't your main pc connect to it via the lan also? Or via usb?

It can but I just thought as my main PC has esata connections it would make sense to use them so I could get some faster throughput

Here are the figures I have found for USB 2, 1394 and Esata 1

    USB 2 - 480Mbps
    1394 - 400 Mbps
    ESATA 1 - 1500 Mbps

I guess ESATA 2 would be 3000 Mbps

so these look faster than 100Mbs with my network connection

If I am missing something or being a bit stupid please let me know....I am still learning about all this :?

E Sata is only for external drives that need data moved quickly. Also, Gigabit ethernet is 1000mbs so that is also pretty quick.

Review says it's poor and the eSATA port is to connect another hard disk to - not to connect it to a PC... I think...

it talks about expanding storage via esata so it does look like an expansion port as apposed to a connection to a pc and yep the review isnt glowing.

The Buffalo Quattro (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Compo...roductId=28403) has eSata but no LAN port

    thanks for your suggestions.....

Perhaps I should just wait for USB 3.0.......

    then again perhaps not.

I thought when I first saw this I could connect all my pc's via esata to it but sadly not.

All I want to be able to do is make use of Esata on my pc and then connect my other pc's to it either via GB lan or Esata
