acer laptop shuts down
ops: Hi my laptop shuts down as soon as the start up screen comes on
all so if you preese f2 to enter the bios it still shuts down before you get time to do any thing.I have the laptop pluged into the mains so that the battery is full charged but still no good,Please can some kind sole point me in the right direction.
Do you get anything on the screen?

Hi thanks for your reply,yes screen starts up and then all shuts off with in
1 min ie post sreen shows for a few seconds only.
If you've got any chance of trying a new battery, I'd suggest that first - even though your current battery is fully charged, it could still be rubbish.
Has anything ever been spilled on the keyboard?
Does it have any warranty? This is all academic if you can just get ASUS to pick it up and fix it

when he says it shuts down within one minute does he mean blue screen style shutdown and restart or it turns itself off completely?

thanks every one I will try a battery as it does not even get to the big bad blue screen I wish it did,i would have reinstalled windows.I hope this works if not i will ask for more help :!:
Can your laptop run without a battery [i.e. take the battery out], just off the mains? I would give that a shot before you buy a new battery.
I had this problem when a memory module got fried. If you have 2 memory modules that you can get at, try removing one or the other and see if it boots. If it boots with only one in, then the one you took out is dead.
Hi have tryied the trick with the memory but it did not work,but laptop starts on just the mains power lead,and then still shuts down even when i press f2 to enter the bios to tell it to boot from cd drive.
Then I would say its not a problem with the battery.
Seems a piece of hardware has failed, could be both memory modules, could be any number of things to be honest.
Laptops are pretty good at overheating, I would see if you have warranty left and get your manufacturer to fix it.
Failing that then take it to a local pc repair shop and see what they can do.
