    Default Notebooks, etc.

    Hi,

my way old laptop (should be six or seven years old now) just died, and given the repairs (power socket would need to be replaced) are about £150 it might make sense to just say good riddance and get a cheapish replacement.

Why Laptop? I travel between countries loads and well, study at uni. Useful to be able to take my computer over rather then relying on chance of catching a PC.

Don't really need anything fancy (nor could I afford that) ... am not into gaming - but would love having a good set of ram to run programs like autostitch/photoshp and the like, as I am doing loads of digital photography. Good quality for DVD would be lovely too (have an external hard drive and external DVD writer already).

From what I've read I am not really a Vista fan - XP should do. Any recommendations what to look for?

    Cheers,
    -Mnemon

    Hi,

If you dont mind a Recon laptop then this should be fine for you:

BUT if you want a new one then you are going to have to pay a bit more than the above. The below has Vista but you can install XP if you want.

Yes, the Dell looks great ... just a bit more detail on the damage/missing software would be useful before ordering anything.

    Thanks for both tips!

The details Ive been given are:

It comes just with power cable and adapter // clean condition // it has security tag on laptop and you should inform customer for that.

Intel ® Core 2 Duo Processor 1.66 GHz, 2GB DDR2, 40GB HDD, DVD+/-RW, 14 ? Wide XGA, Fast IR, Security System Password, WIFI, Bluetooth.
    Does that help?

I had the stock controller track it down

    further details....

The security tag mentioned is a label of sort with another company name on it which is thermally sealed so it cant be removed.

The laptop comes with no software or OS installed and no driver CDs included (only power supply + adapter).

These Dell laptops we get come from Dell - when customers return them to dell, dell sell them off to people like us. Most of the time there is nothing wrong with them, its just that the customer has bought the wrong one and wants to return it!
