Dont get P4's there dead technology now. Core2Duo or nothing is how they compare in speeds. C2D's dont cost much at all, and are very good if your an intel guy.
What is your Maximum budget mate?
* i5 2500K + Corsair H70 * Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD4-B3 * 8GB Black Dragons DDR3 1600Mhz * Curial M4 128GB SSD * x1 1TB WD Caviar Black 64MB * Asus HD 6950 2GB * Fractal Design Define R3 Black Pearl * XFX 750W Black * logitech Z2300 * Benq G2420HDBL LED 24" - Asus Eee PC Seashell white - HTC Sensation xe with beats audio
I recommend the Core 2 Duo E4400. It's can be very easily overclocked to E6700 speeds, but with half the L2 cache.
Pentium 4s are terrible. If you're on a budget you're better off with an Athlon 64 than a P4.
