    Default 7900gt issues + 7900gt owners

i have been hearing about some ppl having problems with graphics corruption on the 7900gt, namely in games such as tomb raider, fear, and also problems reliably running 3dmark 06.

This is meant to be due to the dodgey memory voltage regulator on the 7900gt cards, but it only seems to apply to certain cards. It isnt linked to manufacturer, or model, but the reference pcb layout given to the manufacturers by nvidia.

So please post your expirences with this card.

I will start off by posting my expierence with this card.

I purcahed a albratron model at the start of the month, and it worked perfectly for a few days, untill it crashed when i was loading FEAR. Ever since then i have been getting serious graphical issues with the card, i have taken a screenshot from the second HDR test in 3dmark 06, the one with all the snow.

Im currently in the process of returning the card, in the hope that not all 7900gt cards that i receive will have this feature.

yeah , jus waiting for aria's support ppl to get back to me, me and their support ppl seem to having a mis-understanding at the moment, in that they have fallen out with me and are doing that not speaking thing.

but im sure you'll come thru in the end, wont you aria??

whoops , sorry , not speaking to me, i remember. :S

i'll keep you guys posted about the new graphics card, when aria finally make themselves contactable again.

but for anyone with a similar issue, if you underclock the memory to 600, from 660 using coolbits registry hack, all the problems go away. however this does not go favourably with 3dmark 06.

oh , and robin, i think you got the wrong end of the stick , this is a specific problem with the memory voltage regulators on the 7900gt reference PCB design.

I believe some other forums have recent posts discussing the possibility of a recall of these cards by NVidia.... :?

I've gota BFG 7900GT that i'm running at 550/1600 with no snags at all. Been running like that since March.
There does seem to be a reasonably high failure rate with the 7900s (compared to other cards) but if they work, they work well.

Wait to see if your card turns up ok. If you need to RMA it again change to an ATI x1800XT or sommet similar.

    Cheers
