Default So i bought a dslr... now what? :)

I am pretty n00bish about photography but I do appreciate a good picture and always wanted to be able to take them.

Decided to throw myself in the deep end and buy myself an old dslr, so I have to learn about everything I can. Ended up getting a Canon EOS 300D for cheaps on ebay with an 18-55mm lense. I know its not the latest and geatest but I dont have the moneys for something posh and new.

Anywhere you can send me to learn, or specific things I might want to look into to get me started?

any tips or advice is much appreciated.

    thanks in advance.

For my A200 I bought a guide off amazon for about £8, very comprehensive, covers all the different settings in clear, concise depth!

There will be loads of decent ones for your camera, just buy the best reviewed one

I just started taking photos when I got my DSLR.

I read through the manual a bit, read some online information about aperture etc. and set the thing to full manual and away I went.

I think i may do the same, I like to get hands on with kit. I think ill find it easier to play with settings and find out how it effects the picture than just reading about it. but obv will have to do some reading lol.

yeah i think aperture, ISO's and shutter speeds were the biggest learning curve, but once these are learnt it all makes a lot more sense!

I would sign up with the guys at THE DIGITAL DARKROOM. I've only got a Fuji Finepix S5700, but a lot of the advice is very useful and they have specific rooms for various models including the Canon series. If you're a noob or pro they will always help you.

Talk Photography is a bit like that, some very very helpful people on there and some amazing examples of photos on there. It has sections for different subjects rather than cameras, wild life, motorsport, portraits, landscapes, birds etc even nudes and glamour (strictly no pron).

If you aren't after any comments / critisism, post in the "for fun" section, likewise if you are some indepth critique then post in the err indepth critique section.

Good forum i spend a bit of time lurking on there picking up snippets of info, some useful guides on there.

You might even pick up a bargain from there in the secondhand section or the traders section.

Another link that you might find useful: http://digital-photography-school.com/ . The e-mail mailing list is worth signing up for, useful if you don't visit the site often
