Well, the new build went well

Apart from me not being able to get the volume gauge workin on my new case, got the TEMP and FAN SPEED ones workin but thats it. was wonderin how to overclock my Core 2 Duo E6400, apparently it can go upto 3GHZ. Anyone got any idea how? ive googled it but to no avail.

Tomshardware had some information about C2D clocking, its relatively straightforward with the correct tools.

What motherboard you got, should be able to get it to 3+ reativly easily with a decent mobo. Got both my C2D's running 50% overclocks 6400 @ 3.2ghz and 6600 at 3.6ghz.

I think you may find that your overclcoking options are quite limited on Asrock mobo's i had heard something about 299fsb max, not sure which mobo that was yours maybe different.

yeah, mine has a limit of 299. Absolutely rock stable at that, but refuses to even post at anything faster than that.

The mobo is an Asrock Conroe945G-DVI, so hopefully you'll have more luck on yours.

on my new case theres 3 dials, one measures fan speed one temp and one sound level, the last one i have no idea how to get working. doesnt seem to be a connector for it. the needle moves when the bios speaker bleeps but thats about it, its dead when im playin music.

If it's like the coolermaster one i had i think it had a 3.5mm jack that went into one of the outputs on the sound card, could be wrong though?!

I had a Asrock mobo 939 dual sata 2 with a amd athlon 3700 and i clocked that from 2.2 to 2.9 with no problems, didnt even break a sweat

Have a look on google for a guide but basically all you do is up the cpu's fsb, thing is when you do that other things speed up too, so you have to \"lock\" things like pci bus and pcie bus to a number rather than leaving them to \"auto\" most motherboards nowadays have these locked anyway but just to make sure set them to 33 and 100 respectively. The memory speed will increase to probably but this is good, upto a point when the memory might not be able to take the extra speed, when this happens you will need to either up the voltage to the memory if your board allows or run it slower than standard to start with then bring it up to \"normal\" speeds using the overclock.

This is just a basic run through but find the cmos reset switch / jumper (you may need it to reset the motherboard to default settings) and have a go.
