Default VISTA Dual boot problems - Sound?

Hi there - bit of an odd one this... well i think so

Basically i have chosen to dual Boot Winxp with Vista Ultimate. Everything installed and worked fine, managed to get most things working in vista, but still needed the functionality of XP for legacy type applications (running at work)

...However when i came out of vista and decide to use XP PRO again, i have lost sound? Everything is installed and working OK but no sound in XP - Sound works fine in Vista however.

    - Upto now ive searched the net for info on similar problems but, cant find any fixs
    - Tried latest drivers in XP

    PC SPEC:

    Athlon64 3800
    2gb Ram
    ASUS PUNDIT P1-AH1
(on board realtek High definition Audio)
    250gb
    Pioneer DVDrw

Any ideas as this is well annoying

    Cheers

Stupid question for starters, is the windows volume set to mute/0, look in controll panel, sounds and audio devices, and look at the main volume.

No its not a stupid question - but its not the fix

That was the 1st thing i checked, when i went back into windows.

Everything plays ok, like Mp3s, CD's, AVi's etc - but theres no sound output, and by \" play\" the equalizer moves on the PC indicating theres sound.

    - Its a most perculiar problem

    Found this link http://www.techsupportforum.com/hard...partition.html

However doesnt seem to be a fix?

    ahhh

    Cheers

OK Sussed it i think for now.

Loaded into VISTA installed the Realtek updated HD audio Codec, 1.54 i think from the VISTA Site.

Loaded back into XP - no Sound - removed the above drivers but the XP flavour, and installed the ones that came with my motherboard.

Now sound works in both OS

However its very odd that one would affect the other,?

    - on a side note i noticed that MSN in Vista picked up on my Picture and MSn comments?

    Anyway all working now
