Default Finally have my new machine

It's all up and running nicely under Vista (although setting that up just right was a struggle). Will let it bed in for a week or two before I start seeing what sort of OC I can get.

    Antec 900 Gamer
    Seasonic 600w
    Asus P5B Deluxe Wifi
    Core2Duo E6600
    Scythe Ninja-Plus
    EVGA 8800GTS KOSuperclocked (640Mb, Mem 1700MHz, GPU 576MHz)
    Corsair TwinX 2GB XMS2 Dominator
    2x250gb Seagate 7200.16Mb SATA
    Samsung 18x DVDRW LightScribe
    Vista Premium 64
    Logitech G15 keyboard
    Logitech G7 Mouse
Digimate 19\" LCD (soon to be replaced by a suitable 23\" HD LCD)

What can I say for first impressions? It is super quiet. Like, I couldn't believe how quiet it is. I'm seriously considering getting a different DVD drive, since that's the only noise I hear now. Maybe that will change when I start OCing though.

Vista was a chore to install. There's a few missing drivers (especially Logitech atm), but there's always a few work arounds, and it is definately a nicer OS than XP. Sure, it takes a little to get used to, but I'm glad I made the leap.

It's a little bit to pay off on the old credit card, but you can't beat interest free for 12 months. Woohoo!

Paid for the whole system on my Sony card for the points (working toward a decent MP3 player!), then transferred to a different account with 2.5% charge but 12 months interest free. Will see about moving it again later in the year.

I should sort out some pics. Although I've not done much to tidy up the inside! I'll see what I can do over the weeekend. This week will be spent enjoying the enormous graphics!

Ah, the CPU-Z sig. Will get onto that.

Have you seen the benchmarks on the 8800 on Vista as apposed to XP?
I couldn't live with them; knowing that i've spent ~£400 on a graphics card that will lose a massive percentage of it's performance in Vista!

most of the drivers for vista are still beta I know my sound drivers are as well as the nvidia drivers for the 6600..

It also looks like creative won't have any full version drivers till about april, so even though the beta version gives you sound you won't get the full console or surround support, which is why I love dual boot setups..keep xp for day to day and vista to play about with and get use to using it

I was dual booting between XP and Vista for a while, but never seemed to use Vista to be honest. I couldn't see the point as often in one session I'll browse the net, listen to music and play games. So changing from one OS to another is just too much hassle for me.

Will I but Vista? Probably in the future (when Creative bring out working drivers for their X-Fi cards), and when it comes down in price a little. I'm after the Home Premium copy I think it is, but I don't want the OEM version because it's even more restricting than the normal version of Vista

By the way, very nice system, I'm uber jealous

I hadn't read anything about the 8800 and Vista - I thought I'd looked into every issue going, but there you go, you always miss something.

Pretty committed to Vista now. Gave up my XP when I passed on the PC to my sis. However, I'm a great believer in market forces, and I reckon it won't be as long as everyone thinks for programs to fall into line with Vista. If you consider the amount of people already getting it, then assume that they will move to the (still relatively few) Vista compatible programs, those companies not making in roads into Vista compatability have a pretty weak business strategy.

At least that's what I'm telling myself.

On the other hand, my machine is a much needed improvement over my old one, and it was built with a life of about 3-4 years in mind, so I'm not too worried if I'm not going to get the full benefits for a month or two. I'm already playing the games I love on full specs, so things are good in that respect. Still, thanks for the tips.
