    Default New Phone

    Recieved a new phone yesterday.

    The T-Mobile MDA VARIO II

It has Pocket PC version 5 and i'm wondering if anyone has used it before?

Its my first time of using it and its hard to work out a few things.

1.) When i start Internet Explorer Mobile why does it use my 3G connection as default, when i want it to use WiFi?

2.) Managed to get it Synching today, how do i acquire a music license of a song to play on the phone?

3.) Is there anyway of changing the text message tone to one of your music files?

4.) Any tips or tricks with it?

    Thanks Alex.

I believe its very similar to my XDA MiniS so I can only answer a couple of those questions..

    3) You can set the message tone to anything you want, as long its in a certain format. Encode the file at 8bit, mono @ 22hz pcm and put them in your windows folder on your phone. You should be able to set them as your sms tone now.

    4) Some good programs to get:
MagicButton (replaces the X at the top right with one far more functional)
Check Notifications (scans running processes for duplicates and ends them)
Skype works great - set it up and run it over wifi, and it works like a normal phone, but for free!

You should also be able to overclock it somehow - Mine runs at 200mhz, but its possible to get it to run at aroun 260, which does make a difference with more cpu intensive applications. I think yours is 400mhz stock - just be careful tho.. same principle as overclocking a pc. Little steps in speed - dont go for the full overclock to start with!!

What speed is your wifi on that phone? On mine it is set to 11mb, but its possible to unlock it to a full 54mb - might be worth checking that out too?

For that and a load of other stuff, check this link and scroll down to the \"Hermes\" model - thats the actual name for the phone by the company that makes it:

    Hope that helps!!

Thanks Aaron a hell of alot of good information there!!!

1.) You know of any programs that can encode the file?

2.) I only have a 64mb onboard at the moment, but will try the programmes out when i get a new memory card this weekend.

Yeah its 400Mhz, not sure ill risk overclocking it, but i will have a look at it.
Not many people seem to have this phone so not much info on the web about it.

Speed of WiFi? Aint got a clue how to tell. 802.11b/g and i have the Wifi set to best performance.

I will defiently install some kind of Tom Tom on it, just trying to find a nice cheap version

    lol - mine was a P1 150, 16mb RAM.

Although my first computer was a BBC Model B. 2Mhz 6502 CPU, with 32k RAM - and a floppy disk drive!!! None of this tape pap where after 2 hours of loading a game, it told you that there was an error and you should restart the loading! And that was the top of the line version. The Model A only had 16k. HARDCORE!!

Bels, try looking for a program online called Audacity. Its a freebie audio editor, so it'll let you chop up/edit audio files etc, and then export them in pretty much any format you want.

Definately check out that forum I mentioned. Hundreds of users with that phone, and almost any question covered already!
