    Default Hackintosh

Anyone done the geeky thing and turned a Dell Mini 9 into a Mac? Entirely legal (though don't expect any support from Apple), especially if you buy the OS disc like me.

Runs great, especially if you upgrade the internal SSD to a faster RunCore! Not to tricky to do either these days, thought it's best to stick wtih Leopard. Snow Leopard is a bit buggy still though, sound and sleep doesn't work.

I'm not sure how to do it, but it's more than worth it to test the "It just works" theory!

There were a few guides on youtube the last time I checked.

Andy mate, take a look here, http://www.hackint0sh.org/.

Best palce to go is here with discussion here.

Use NetBookInstaller for Snow Leopard, DellEFI for Leopard.

I installed it straight onto a RunCore SSD plugged in via USB, by far the easiest way to do it, but you need a Mac to do that.

Doing it from a PC isn't too much harder though, you just need a USB stick or USB CD drive.

My Hackint0ch is running on an old P4 prescot in an Intel MB, everything works including the on-board graphics, sound & ethernet. sound can be a problem especially with added pci cards ie Creative etc.

Played around with this a couple of years ago. Took me ages to find the right combo of components so it would work properly.

So you can pick your own hardware, instead of being given what apple say you can have. And it would probably be cheaper anyway

some times if you get it right its like half the cost of a real mac

the most part is people just do it for a laugh to try,. ... the thing people have against apple is they force u to use only the parts they say are good enough which then adds £x amount extra to there cost when you could just buy something from like aria thats £xx cheaper and put it in your self. but nooooo Apple then start it voids warrenty if you do it your self.

and then consider this for £800 you can only get a Core 2 Duo 2.X ghz mac laptop 13" and i m taking delivery for a Dell 15 " Core i7 for only £700 .... dual core vs quad core with hyper threading

So, best way is to make sure you have an Intel CPU / Mobo. What about Graphics?

I tried it with an AMD setup but kept having problems. It installed on my netbook no problem! Intel!
