    Default New rig, need help

    Hey all.
About a year ago (March 06) I bought a brand new, singing, dancing uber PC off aria. Minus the graphics card.
I used a 9600XT (AGP) out of my old rig, which can cope with not much more than Half-Life 2.
Anyway, I was thinking of upgrading to a PCI-E mobo with a new card and low and behold, aria don't sell them anymore.

Little annoying, but hey-ho. Birthday is soon and I should be able to afford a pretty decent rig. Specs as follows.

    AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200 Retail AM2 (2.2GHZ)
    Motherboard Not chosen
    XFX GeForce 7600GT 256MB PCI-E DDR3
    1GB Crucial DDR RAM (512x2) 184 Pin
    120GB Seagate Barracuda SATA X2
    Gamesurround Muse 5.1 Sound card
    Warrior Gamers Case - Black

    I have 2 concerns.
    1) I need a good motherboard in there somewhere, not particularly expensive as I am not an overclocker. Must be SLI.
    2) The AM2 CPU chip has an FSB Speed of 1000mhz, my current motherboard has an FSB speed of 2000mhz I think. Are we going backwards in speed, or am I getting confused with the whole FSB, Multiplier, MHZ, GHZ & Whatnot thing?

    Any help much appreciated. MattyW.

P.S. While I'm here. Wow, Since when was quad core out?
    A: Wow, yesterday. Found this.

P.P.S Just realized this is in the wrong section, my bad.

Well just how many do you require? Considering there are over 50 of the buggers for your chosen CPU.

    AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200 Retail AM2 (2.2GHZ) !
    HERE: -> AM2 Motherboards!

Have you not considered the Intel Core 2 Duo Processor? Beats AMD hands down atm! Would be my choice if i were spending that much on a new rig imho.

    I third the notion
    Gaming Rig: C2D E8400 @ 3.85GHz : Biostar TPower I45 : 4GB of something, I forget what : 4870 512MB DDR5 : X-Fi
    Media Rig: C2D E2160@ 1.86GHz : 2GB PC5300 : Palit 8800GTS 320MB : SB Audigy 2

    I meant for Socket 939.
I didn't want to upgrade CPU if I didn't have to. My original plan was just to upgrade Motherboard and GFX Card.
    Yeap Core 2 Duo
    I third the notion
Seriously? I hear AMD were much better for gaming, and what's the difference between intel dual-core and AMD dual-core?
    Besides, I would prefer a 64-bit processor.

AMD used to be better for gaming, but that was before the Core 2 Duo
Intel Core 2 Duo is a 64bit CPU
