You buy puppy's usually when they're about 8 weeks old. The person you buy it from *should* I think have had some of the injections done already, but you do need to get some done yourself. Similar to cats i think.

Animals should go to the vet every year for an injection, costs around £60.

I'm a strong believer of you never pick a dog, the dog picks you

Just before I was born my parents went out looking for a dog to buy, my dad had wanted one for ages. They went to see a lady about some Springer Spaniel pups she had for sale.

They arrived and sat down and were having a chat over a cup of tea. One of the puppies wandered over and sat down on my dads feet, then bless him, the little puppy fell asleep on him! They knew right then that they'd found the right dog, so they bought him, and called him Laddie.

Of course a year or so later I was born, and the dog turned into my guardian! Whenever I was in my pram he'd sit right next to it. If a stranger came anywhere near the pram he's growl and get his teeth out, unless my mum told him off

One day when I was about two I managed to get out of the house and started walking down the road! The dog noticed and started following me, stayed right next to me the entire time until my mum found me! The second my mum had me in her arms, the dog ran off! He even jumped through a window (smashing the glass) once, and pounced on an insurance saleswomen, good dog!!

Of course he died many years ago now : And we've had a little Yorkshire Terrior for the last 10 years, called Gizmo. We still have her, in fact my girlfriends walking her right now.

One of my goals is to buy a dog of my own as soon as we've bought a house together

    Pet insurance is your friend

I have 3 cats. All three are covered for less than £20 a month. Considering one of the little bleeders fights anything and I mean ANYTHING that comes within range when he's of a mind - it's reassuring to know when he comes in having had his *** handed to him by something three times his size that I can take him to the vets and get him patched up without being hit by a £500 bill.

Shop around tho - especially check the internet, you'll find some very very good deals and with a pedigree dog as lovely as that Lab - you'll want him looked after

I reckon he'll be fine if he's trained properly!

Don't be afraid to tell him off when he's done something naughty. But treat him when he does something right.

    They learn quickly
