    Default Network for Two

I have had two computers linked via a network cable for several years and they share an adsl usb modem connection. The problem is that both have to be powered-up when just the 'client' needs access to the internet. Can anyone advise me as to what I need to do so that I do not need both computers to be turned on? The modem is the old blue-green SpeedTouch model that was supplied initially by BT (I now use Virgin). Do I need to purchase a powered router/hub with modem built-in? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

^^ or something similar will allow you to connect upto 4 pcs / network devices to it at anyone time and any of them will be able to connect to the net.

Thanks for your reply. Do you think I'd be better off switching to a wireless set-up? I'm not that bothered about cost. Thanks

Personally i hate wireless, when we tried it to get the old mans pc on the net through our router we had nothing but trouble with signal drop out. One minute it would be great 90% signal strength / quality next minute 0%. We got that ****ed off with it we got a 20m network cable and hard wired it and never looked back since.

Tis up to you though i also know a lot of people who have had great success with it.

    Like PP says,

    Wired is best
but wireless is great for Laptops

In your case your not going to be moving the PC so Wired

run them under the floor boards
