But its only 5% of the population getting a tax rise, many of which agree with it.

Though I would agree with some statements about income vs assets, and the difference between 100-200K earners and the 0.1%, that doesnt change the fact the the taxes on the high earners is simply too low atm.

Right now with the Tories manifesto, it seems like they are trying to make people NOT vote for them. In fact, it looks intentional after the paying for social care thing, this will swing many 50+ voters.

So maybe omega is right, Let Corbyn take the blame for a soft brexit because everyone knows that a hard brexit will be devastating.

So the Tory manifesto attacks children, and the elderly.

I will try to keep my personal bias down a little as I am genuinely interested in peoples views on the Tory Manifesto and if this has made them change their minds about anything? and whether they would prefer to vote Labour on the basis of 4 extra bank holidays?

hah, thing is despite how that image above is biased towards labour, I still agree with some of the blue side.

The winter fuel payment should be means tested or scrapped.

I looked at a mortgage application for a member of a popular 70/80's english rock band who was entilted to that. Not only was he earning way loads of money, he was in holiday in the south of france when he received the payment. Well, I guess it was keeping his guitar collection or similar warm.

I am glad my taxes go towards that.

(just in case, I should add the Aria forum sarcasm alert for the final sentence)
If you really really really really love me. You'd never make me hang out with your family. Your mum sucks and your dad really hates me. When I try to borrow money he berates me. Somehow he thinks that I'm too old for you, 'cause you're nineteen and I'm fifty two.

That is a good way of adding to the ranks of civil servants, or whoever the Tories subcontract to screw up the means testing. (Crapita would love to get its hands on that one.)

Means testing, as many people have pointed out, puts off many of those who actually need the winter fuel payment.

There is no need to means test the winter fuel payment. Just claw it back in taxes.

Every month, the tax on my pension pays for my winter fuel payment many times over. I suspect that the rock start you know also hands over a few quid to the tax man every year, unless his manager has stolen his stash.

I'm not complaining, and now that the Tories have got us oldies in their sights, with plans to do a land grab on our property, why not go the whole hog?

It would take a tiny tweak to the tax code to scrape even more off the top of my pension.

They could even start charging us National Insurance, a misnamed tax if ever there was one.

I agree with this, giving the fuel allowance to everybody is beyond daft.

There are people who genuinely need money to heat their homes in the winter, it should be means tested for sure.

This is why every Tory is telling as many people as they can: “They’re going to take your money in tax.” And this is true as Labour are increasing tax rates for the top five per cent of earners, and these days almost everybody is in the top five per cent.

Labour’s proposed increase starts at income earned above 80,000 a year, so some people might say, “I don’t earn anywhere near that, so it won’t apply to me.” But the simple answer to that is, “Yes you do. Don’t be conned by Labour’s communist lies, you earn 600,000 a year as a commodities broker.”
