    Default Looking to upgrade

I'm looking to go SLR for my new camera when I next get paid and was wondering whats the BEST SLR for around £300?

My current camera is the beautiful Samsung SNV3 which I have actually taken some pretty nice shots with, but I feel the need for bigger and better!

    Cheers dudes.

It depends how far you want to take SLR photography.

There are two obvious "front runners" in Canon and Nikon who supply a vast range of glass, flash guns etc, and there's other makes for the "hobbiests" who will likely stick to one or two lenses.

I don't know what the quality of Lumix or Sony (ex Minolta) are like, but don't forget other old makes such as Olympus (two work colleagues have this brand), Pentax and Practika.

from my reading when I bought mine, sony and cannon are worse value for money, for virtually the same price you could get the obvious leader which is the Nikon range. For about £300 id suggest the d40x if you wanted to go Nikon.
If you aren't as fussed about having the nikon branded, olympus is a cheaper alternative. I got the Olympus E-410 last year with 2 lenses for £300, whereas if i went for the nikon id have been paying about £350 for just 1 lens. I can't personally tell the difference in image quality, but then again i dont blow my images up or anything like that. What I will say is that it also has some other cool features that the nikon doesnt, for example live viewer, you can see what you are taking a picture of through the LCD screen which you cant sing nikons, or at least the earlier models. Its also a lot smaller and compact than the nikons, which some people hate, but i personally think it works best for me, as it means you arent really gonna get tired of holding it as fast.

I hope this helped, if just a little. Its always a good idea to watch reviews, then you get an idea of how easy it is to use and how big it is etc, there are quite a few on youtube.

    Happy shopping

the thing is, everyone with a nikon will say they are happy with their camera, simply because it is a nikon, the best thing to do, as i say, is read reviews and actually check the market out. However I wouldnt recommend a 6mp camera or whatever the d40 is simply because it virtually eliminates possibility of clearly blowing up high quality images to large sizes.
