Default Just a tad on the cold side...

I think the stated storage and operating temperatures might be off by a tiny little bit

    https://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Comp...roductId=66880

    Storage Temp.: -4080 Celsius
    Operating Temp.: -2560 Celsius
I could be wrong, but I'm fairly certain those sort of temperatures don't exist anywhere... Absolute zero being a mere percentage of those numbers and all...

That's nothing compared to claimed monitor dynamic contrast ratio figures.

There are theoretical negative temperatures. I say "theoretical" but such temperatures have been created in labs. However the theory behind negative kelvin is somewhat paradoxical. eg even just the wikipedia article makes my brain hurt: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negative_temperature

I've read this sentence a few times now, and I still don't really get it....

A system with a truly negative temperature on the Kelvin scale is hotter than any system with a positive temperature.

You need the next bit, i.e. "If a negative-temperature system and a positive-temperature system come in contact, heat will flow from the negative- to the positive-temperature system"

However, essentially it's pointless in the practical world as you can't slow down particles further than them being stationary, which is why you get the weird above concept to make sense of an impossible situation.

Theoretical only. They've never been created in labs. We haven't even hit absoute zero properly yet, though we can get very close now:

Researchers from NASA and MIT have cooled sodium gas to the lowest temperature ever recorded one-half billionth degree above absolute zero.
Scientists at an Italian institute have set a world record of the lowest temperature ever achieved in the universe. They cooled a copper vessel with a volume of one cubic meter to -273.144 degrees celsius. This is stunningly close to 'absolute zero', which is equal to -273.15 degrees celsius.

Sorry to disagree, but it has been created in labs: http://www.nature.com/news/quantum-g...e-zero-1.12146

Indeed, but absolute zero and negative kelvin are different atomic states. Which is why one has been achieved where as the other has not.

It's all a bit weird. I'm not even sure if there's general scientific consensus that state should classed as negative temperature. But I don't understand it so can't really comment. It does make for a good headline though

Does it say whether they did it using LED strips from Aria?

Oooh this feels like one of those threads where I could have a good old fashioned argument with CF

..... if I understood what it was going on about.

ah and the ol' double post bug returns!

Thats exactly what I meant. Reading in the context of what is physically possible..

    Someone call this guy.....

If you really really really really love me. You'd never make me hang out with your family. Your mum sucks and your dad really hates me. When I try to borrow money he berates me. Somehow he thinks that I'm too old for you, 'cause you're nineteen and I'm fifty two.
