Default Windows XP OEM CD Corrupt?

I purchased an oem version of win xp pro from aria. When i insert the cd in my dvd writer it doesn't read the disc. My dvd drive reads the disk. I need to do clean format and install. when i try to boot up from the cd, it justs reads the cd eventually giving me an error (Errir 32768 - i386\\bootinfo.inf could not be loaded). I can't progress. Is the cd corrupt or damaged. Its the first time i'm using this particular cd.

    Thanks

    UPDATE

Tried it on a laptop and it worked. I then tried it on my computer again, but the same problem. However the dvd writer can now read the disc and i am able to boot up from it correctly . I have not yet tried the installation etc. Will leave that for the time being. However a 'backup' copy worked perfectly on both the drives :?:
