Default big problem - \"no operating system found\"

    Hi Lucy,

I bought a laptop from Aria on 22nd May 2006. Evrything had been great until about 3 weeks ago. The laptop came with no operating system but I had installed a version of Windows 2000 myself. But 3 weeks ago, each time I switched the laptop on I have been given a message that \"no operating system has been found\"

I have no idea why this would start to happen having only had the machine for less than 6 months. I am not a very IT/techy person and wondered how I could solve this problem or whether it might be a problem with the hard drive. What also worries me is that having sent off my 12 warranty after receiving the laptop, I have never received any notification from the manufacturer to confirm my warranty is valid.

Any advice you could offer me would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards,
    Phil Allen

if you have a floppy drive stick in a windows boot disk to load up a dos prompt

then run chkdsk to check your disk if all looks fine just go to c: and type dir make sure all your files are there.

this may produce any number of errors.
