Default I'm back, and in need of more advice!!

    Hi everyone,

don't know if you remember me (http://www.aria.co.uk/lucy/viewtopic...142&highlight=)

but i'm in need of some more advice.

My dad has just asked me recently to give the home pc a little upgrade preferably for no more than £200.

The current pc spec. is pretty outdated. The processor is a 2.6Ghz intel celeron r which i suppose is not too bad. I'm almost certain that the low memory total is the key factor which is holding the pc back. Only 256 mb of ram is installed.

I've had a little look around and have spotted these (i've included a cpu just to see whether it is a good upgrade or not) :

Intel Pentium D 915 Dual Core RET
    [CPU-I-P4-915R]

    1GB PC5300 Elixir DDR2

    Asrock CONROE945G-DVI Socket 775
    http://www.aria.co.uk/ProductInfoComm.asp?ID=25680

At first glance they look suitable but i'm unsure on whether this is the best option for the budget.

Thanks in advance guys, i know you'll come up with the goods!

That seems like a very smart upgrade, from what ive read, you arent looking for gaming spec, so that should be perfect. You realise that its a mATX mobo? go for a full ATX preferrably, but that upgrade seems perfect for your needs.

Well, i would like to play some games but i plan on buying a graphics card another time (if that is what you meant) . ATX is the size of the mobo right?

    Thanks

Sort of, it defines size and power usage, mATX are generally used in small pcs, but do work fine in normal pcs. A full atx would handle power much better. As for GFX cards, the one in there will barely suffice for gaming nowerdays, but will tide you over till you buy one for it.

Will an ATX fit into any case or will i have to purchase a larger one? I was also wondering about the PSU, i have had a quick look inside the case and the current psu is a 250W unit, would you recommend anything with more power or will that suffice? Also is the old hdd connector IDE as i think that the current hard drive is the old style of connector (e.g. before sataII)?

    Thanks.

nice one! now you mention it, the connection from the hard drive is a ribbon cable. What would you recommend for a PSU? 450W+ or will i be ok with something like this:

    SV 450w SilentLoad 20 & 24+SATA PSU
