Decision, decisions, get the 7850 or the 7870? Hmmm.

7850 1gb would be perfect for me, if I had the cash...

1280x1024 resolution = cheap gaming cards

    Epic prices

Hehe, I'd upgrade that monitor mate, I noticed a big difference going from 1280 to 1920.

You would still need more then 1Gb matey, Frame buffer size between resolutions doesn't actually change all that much..

Trouble is, I've got 2 of them - so I'd need to upgrade both at the same time. Also, I HATE widescreen

    wut?
I thought higher vram was a must as you upped the resolution.

most I've seen my current 460 - 768mb go is 550mb (not counting the high-res hd pack on skyrim cos that was unplayable )

It depends on the game but generally it doesn't increase very much, anti-aliasing is what bumps up the VRAM use...

    Look here : http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/g...nity_review/18

Eyefinity runs 3x the pixels and yet doesn't consume anywhere near 3x the memory consumption.

I bet on the average game moving from 720p to 1080p only adds around 50-100mb extra memory..
