    Default Old Laptop Sodimms needed.

    Hi,

So, my girlfriends goddaughter is a bit of a pain in the ****, she desperately wants a laptop but her parents cannot afford to get her one.

I have dug my old Dell Latitude C610 (Pentium 3 1ghz CPU, 128mb 133mhz RAM) out of its coffin and swapped the HDD and it now works.

I have added XP Home, but its very slow, have stripped it down to the basics, but still facing 5 minute boot-times to a useable start menu, itunes takes ages to load.

So does anyone have any PC100 or PC133, must be 144 pin Laptop sodimms? Ideally i require 256mb or 512mb.

Have looked on the what used to be an auction site but is now just a crap shop and will bid on some but as will all old technology the prices are sky high.

    So anybody?

    Will pay of course.

seems the maximum ram this takes is 1GB
Now the bad news cheapest ram (311-2036) is about £55 (inc postage) for a single 512Mb Sodimm.
I am not losing weight! I'm getting rid of it. I have no intention of finding it again!

I think you assumption about the performance is very well founded, especially if it has onboard graphics using main memory!

But I think you will either have to take a risk on Fleabay or bite the bullet and pay £55 inc postage.

55 quid is out of the question.

2 x 256mb on fleabay go for 12 poonds, am just trying to make it as cheap as possible.

It was alot faster on Windows 2000 when i first go it.

    Thanks though.

Cheapest way of getting some original performance back is to format the HD and reinstall the whole lot again

Is that possible? Do you have any of the original disks?

It only takes PC100/133 and it has to be 144 pin.

Would it be possible to e-bay the C610 and buy a cheap netbook?

The C610s seem to be going for quite a reasonable sum on ****, £50-£80, and even up to £100, add the £20 you would spend on RAM and get an EEE PC or something.
