Default Recommendations for a new card?

It seems it's so hard to get what you want in the gpu market these days. I am going to be upgrading from my 2x 6870's very soon and was looking for a new card to go to. I will be starting off with a single card then upgrading to a dual card set up later on(hopefully I will not have to change my 750w psu but no biggy if I do).

    I need the following:

    - Needs to have a dual link dvi and single link for both of my monitors (one is an achieva shimian(1440p dual link dvi) while the other is a ben q (normal 1080p via single link dvi))

I was thinking about the 7950 or the 670. The 7950 is cheaper but by the time I have to get the mini dp to dvi adapter they are about even in pricing. So suggestions?

PS: my price range is between the 7950 up to a 7970, the 680 is a tad bit too much imo.

the 670 is a very good card although priced a little high. The 7970 is a good card if you can get an aftermarket cooled one for the same money as a 670 it may be worth it. I got an asus dc2 670 top but i got mine at the highest price they were at paying just over £360 for it at the time i could have got the dc2 7970 but went with the 670 as at that time bf3 performance was much better and my card in reviews was matching the gtx680 for fps.

I assume you meant to write 7950 and not 7970?

The choice between the 670 or 7950 is certainly a hard one. The 670 gives apparent better performance but the 7950 has more vram which I imagine could be handy in a dual card set up later on down the road.

Anyone else got any advice either way?

7970's can be had for the same price as a 670. but looking at it, 7950's seem to be better value if you're intending to overclock.

You could sit here for ages, but at the end of the day, they're all very near each other in terms of performance.

    Here's an interesting article:

I just ordered myself a GTX 670 after going through the same options, In the end the GTX 670 was the clear choice. Lower power draw, smaller card physically, runs cooler, overclocks well, generally performs closer to the 7970 than the 7950, negligible price difference compared to a 3rd party 7950 with a decent cooler (MSI Twin Frozr 7950 was £269, EVGA GTX 670 was £286).

I've been using ATI GPU's almost exclusively since the 3800 series, and i'll never deny the fact i'm not a fan of Nvidia as a business, but the truth of the matter is that the green team have AMD beat in this round.

Hard choices. The power draw, smaller card and such don't really appeal to me. I have been looking and reading and I might go for a 7970. Now to start looking at different models and places for different prices(sadly aria's product selection in terms of 7970's isn't very good).
