    Default Spirits

Well I was thinking of making a post about rum and whiskey and noticed that there was a vodka thread... While I hate vodka, I thought hey, why not just have a spirits thread...

Personally I love Rum, a good single malt goes down well too. (Glenmorangie is my single of choice atm)

When it comes to rum, i enjoy spiced golden rums and dark rums and im currently on the hunt for a Rum i tried a little while ago.. but i dont know what it is called

Basically, it is the darkest rum ive ever seen, (looks thick and black) and when a single measure was mixed with a tall glass of lemonade it still looked like a glass of coke! Had a rich creamy toffee/fudge/burnt caramel flavour with hints of spices -vanilla, cinnamon

Ive tried most mainstream Rums and cpt morgans spiced with apple tango is a general mix I drink, but i enjoy woods and navy rum, myers isnt too bad, but imo same level as cpt morgans original, im not too fond of any bacardi. My favourite when I can find it is Goslings black seal & old rum and Skipper Demerrara. I did like the old sailor jerry but the latest stuff is pretty crap and 'Kraken' isnt too bad either ( a little overrated based on marketing though tbh). There are some rums im interested in trying and I have some Ron Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva on the way

anyone able to aid in my search?

Also feel free to share your drink of choice

Ooooh, a thread I can get my teeth into! Sat with a glass of morgan's spiced with pepsi max and ice at the minute, rum is a recent discovery to me but this stuff is heaven. I've tried the bacardi oakheart which I thought was alright, sailor jerry's is a damn fine golden/spiced rum too....that's my only input

    /idea leech mode on!

    Anyone tried this? http://www.krakenrum.com/

edit: recommendation from a guy at work i haven't tried yet....morgans spiced with ginger ale

further edit: just to be clear, i haven't tried the guy OR his suggestion.....

further further edit: I have no intention of trying the guy

Been working my way through a fair few rums in the last 18mths, Diplomatico is my personnel favourite. Followed by Ron Zacapa 23 anos and Pusser's 15yo.

Kraken as i said, isnt too bad, far from the best though and imo i prefer morgans spiced but not to say its not good for you due to different tastes etc..

First of all I am not a big drinker, I am 24 and I dont drink beer. The only drink I have is spirts, Which consist of, Rum, Vodka, Pimms, southern comfort and malibu (if that counts )

Ssometimes i have a drink in the week if its nice weather, like all of last week, But I mainly drink if we have friends over on friday and saturday night, Drink of choice, I havn't got one, hence why I drink a lot of 'special' cocktails

I personally only really touch scotch, I don't mind some brandy though. Rum is too hot for me personally.

Glennfiddich 21 year old is magnificent. (not had any older yet.)

I do quite enjoy Dewars white label too.

Dewars 18 year old is on my radar when I can afford some.

pre 2010 sailor Jerrys sells for £80-120 per 70cl-1.5l bottle atm it is that popular. Imo old sailor jerrys tastes like a sweeter/vanillery cpt morgans spiced + Kraken and it is only popular due to its palletability as a mainstream drink. not that I mean that is a bad thing, it is nice, just not my preferred rum (many precontemperary sailor jerry fans are jumping on the Kraken as their replacement, though as already stated, Kraken is only a bit better than the current SJ and personally think its overrated fluffed up with marketing jive and well considered design, IE definitely one aiming to take on the mainstream rum arena). The best rums all originate from the caribbean area but generally guyana, bermuda and Jamaica produce the best.

If i was to recommend any rums atm, I would suggest people should try

And I cant wait to try this based on reviews

If you like your spirits then i recommend the whisky exchange too, I have bought a few of their islay whiskys for my old man for christmas / birthday and they are very smoothe, as is the Japanese whisky.

They also do weird Rums amoungst other stuff too.

I was given an expensive bottle of whiskey 5 years ago, and it's a 12 year old malt.

My question is, is 17 years a bit too much for whiskey? Shall I just bin it?

I can't drink any alcohol whatsoever because of my pills.
