    Default It's the little things.

In a bad mood today. Customer calls up. "Everything is wrong with my PC."
"Oh yes? Sorry to hear that, what specifically are you experiencing?"
    "Everything"
"I see, like what for instance?"
"Just everything. My girls said the same."
"I see. Your girls? Is this machine being used for business purposes?"
    "Yes, this is a hairdressers."
"Ah I see. I regret we do not cover business machines. I shall put through a cancellation now for you. "

Sometimes you feel that a basic competency test before you can purchase a PC would come in handy...knowing for example terms like "Start Menu", "Double Click" and "Anti-Virus"

My personal bugbear atm is people having trouble with "My internet" when they really mean "My browser".

My main issue is "I clicked on the Google icon on my desktop". Excellent I think, they're using Chrome! Nope, IE's icon = Google...

Oh, and I've even had "Hi, my screen isn't working, can you help?" "Sure, what appears to be the issue?" "Well, there's no lights on it and it's all black" "Have you turned it on yet?" "No..."

No amount of Picards can help these people.

Had this one sssooooo many times it's unreal. I've literally had to drive 20 miles out of town to a homeworker in the middle of rush hour, to deliver a new monitor to replace a faulty one... Stupid had unplugged it to do the hoovering and not plugged it back in... I even asked them if they'd tried turning it on and made sure it was plugged in before I'd gone out with the replacement... Your hard earned, easily swiped tax money hard at work eh?
I don't get why Americans don't make movies like Star Wars these days...

The rebellious underdogs flying their planes in a suicide mission into the heart of a base to destroy the mighty empire that is threatening to overtake their homeland doesn't seem to appeal to them anymore

Back in the old days of the IBM 32/64 Mainframe? computer ----- once a month we had to run the purchase ledger. In those days data was held on punched cards which in this case occupied 16 trays sorted in man friendly name/address sequence for manual updates of purchases during the month.
To run the ledger required sorting all 16 trays into 16 digit account number sequence, running through the ledger program and sorting them back to name/address.
I'd just finished loading the cards and sorting them back when the cleaner came in with her hoover, hot unplugged the computer which still had 3 hours of processing them to do, and proceeded to hoover round the carpet.
I didn't need the extra overtime as I was already doing 16 hour shifts.

Even artificial intelligence needs to be programmed - or at least defined working parameters within which to operate

My sister not that long ago says to me her external HDD is not working, is making a clicking sound and doesn't even get detected in windows so I ask her to bring it along and i'll look at it for her. The problem she had with it was that the power adapter she was trying to use was the wrong one though since the jack fitted she didn't realize it was wrong.

This is why external HDDs should always be powered through 1 or multiple USBs imho.

Can't do that with 3.5in drives. They need 12v and USB only supplies 5v.
In any case USB powered mechanical disk drives are the worst thing you can use for data reliability. They seldom get enough power to work properly.

One of my bugbears is people who think you have to go through word to open a word document, or that you have to open excel before you open an excel file.

In fact office has a lot to answer for: people using tables in word for things that should be in excel. Nesting word documents within word documents, inception style. People who email you a picture and feel the need to put it inside a word document. Comic Sans or Script fonts in email signatures. Read receipts. Folder paths on the shared drive which are 8 levels deep. People who email you an attachment with no extension, so you can play guess the format. Death by powerpoint presentation. Spreadsheets so brightly coloured they bring on seizures.

Haha, can't argue with any of those! You can probably add people that use stupid backgrounds on emails to that list?
