    Default Sound not working

    Right,

Ive tried reinstalling and all that shiz.

I plug my headphones into either the front or back and they are detected as headphones or speakers (depending on if i put them in front or back)

But no sound comes out of them! And they arent on mute.

    Any ideas?

BTW: Im using Win 8 Consumer Preview, it has been working fine until yesterday when i installed a belkin wireless card, which i have taken out and it still doesnt work.

    Thanks

Check what other sound devices are showing in device manager and then check that something odd isn't set as the output device. Mine often changes randomly to something I have no intention of playing sound out of, like some phantom midi device.

Yep, thats all fine. Its all set to play through my headphones, but still no sound.

Ive just finished installing Windows 7 again and i STILL have the same problem! Front panel audio doesnt work, rear audio doesnt work.

Would this be a problem with the motherboard?

    Thanks

If it's a fresh install of Windows, do you have any drivers that need installing?

Check BIOS too as there's often a setting to disable the on-board soundcard.

I'd suggest concentrating on getting sound out of the rear first as it's likely to be simpler to trouble-shoot.

Well i installed the Realtek software just in case. And yes i did check the bios first.

And it still doesnt work... I might try disabling it and enabling again in the bios, just incase,

Ooo... One thing i havent done, reflashed the bios! Il do that as well.

Check you haven't knocked any cables loose, especially around the front panel audio connector.

Windows 7 should be able to at least play a sound through the onboard device if it's enabled, even if it can't do any fancy effects or whatever. So my guess would be something knocked loose/shorted out, OR the audio chip's died (which I've never seen happen without warning on any of my motherboards).
I saw a woman earlier today who had no chin and all I could think about was "how does she put pillow cases on?"

Have to agree, I'm all for opening up the case and seeing what's been bashed. Have a good look around where you have plugged the wireless card in and the audio header cables. Double check everything is properly seated.

Perhaps also worth disabling the wireless card in Device Manager and rebooting. That might eliminate any potential driver conflict.

Yeah, i unplugged all my pci cards and looked around, unplugged and re plugged the front audio back in. Everything seems to be fine. No bent pins or bent legs on chips. But i actually dont know where the audio chip is, its usually towards the back of the mb, but that isnt a Realtek chip it says Fintek. Still no sound. Ive left the pci cards out for now.

EDIT: Found the chips! They seem intact.

Can you post a screen shot of the "playback" tab of the sound thing in Control Panel and "sound, video and game controllers" in Device Manager please.

The headphones aren't showing as plugged in.

Try them in the speaker output.

That's because the headphones are plugged in the back.

They are detected in the front as well.

    Bump?

Im currently using a old cheap pci sound card that has really bad background noise.

I really need to find the problem with my onboard.
