Default ASRock Z77 Extreme4 Review (With Ivy Bridge)

Morning guys As you know from my review of Z68 Extreme4 Gen3, I loved this mobo.... well I've been very keen to get the Z77 variant to see if good things continue. Again, this comes highly recommended and if you are not wanting to spend a ton on a new mobo. Grab this! (Aria - Z77 Extreme4)

Loving the colour of the board mate, why oh why would they make it thinner than a standard board, it makes no sense to me and might catch a few buyers out. Great review as always.

I know, very odd decision to make. If I remember rightly the GBT Z68AP-D3 was the same, slimmer on the dimensions!

I really have become a fan of the ASRock motherboards, they are good looking bits of kit!

gigabyte, asus, abit and most of all mobo makers have made thiner than standard boards in the past so its not just these.

if anything its good as it helps keep costs down imo

It's like they took GB's UD5 etc design from the Z68's and somehow bested it.

It may cost them less to produce but that return doesn't reach the consumer mate. It isn't a good idea, because as a consequence you could snap your motherboard because it isn't supported for various things like installing RAM, 24-pin power etc etc.

idk, this is better spec'd than the p8z77 v le and that costs more, tbh if you didnt need all the pci e slots of some of the higher end boards costing £40 or £50 more its almost a match for them too.

that is the only downside i can see is that you could damage the board if you was not careful but i think even the most elephant handed would see this issue before hand and support the board with either a spare hand or maybe some blutac or something.

maybe if they shipped it with a small rubber sticker block or 2 you could stick to the mobo tray under that side of the board it would be better. have you brought this issue up with asrock?

Most people will be careful and take extra measures like install memory prior to fixing to the mobos tray but i can see others just being totally oblivious.

Thats quite a neat idea actually. I shall mention it to em. If it goes forward ill get them to call it the 'marsey stand-off'

nah, seen oem builds use them instead of real stand offs before mate, matx systems with 4 screws and 3 rubber blocks stuck to the tray.

but its a good idea for these too as it was somthing i did on a p35 ds3r mobo i had that was thiner than standard too

    PCB saving... reduces cost.
