actually there not bad, iirc top gear had one on test (hammond tested it iirc) and they liked it.
as for the head gaskets, once bmw bought rover, the engines were looked at, and iirc this isnt so much an issue as earlier models
I will see what happens, as I said earlier it ain't gonna have a hard life from me.

It's amazing how all the stereotypes creep out whenever someone mentions the MG zeds
seriously, I wish every car i've had was as reliable as this one.
I've had mine since NEW (that's January 2004) it's done 136K, used to do a 80mile a day commute, and in that time It's been serviced as per the book, and after all that nothing has broken/failed except wear items (brake pads, etc).
literally, the only issue i've had with it is currently one of the rear brake calipers is sticking a little. wow. such a dreadful state for an 8 year old car to be in.
by the time my Audi A4 was the same age and less miles, it was on its 3rd gearbox...
my hyundai Lantra (god awful car... utter utter rubbish. not my choice however) was going through wheel bearings quarterly, and the auto box was not at all healthy. and it had had a valve break at some point when my parents had it, along with all manner of other engine problems.
no brand is immune from problems, just the likes of BMW and Merc are better at covering them up and keeping the media sweet.
One upside to owning one of these is that the enthusiast community is enormous, and much like the overclocking community, look after each other. the forums you'll be interested in are:
