  • Windows 10 File Type Associations

How.... How do you do it.

I double click on a file. Windows asks, "How do you want to open this file?"
I select the program, tick the box that reads "Always use this app to open .*** files"

Then I try to open another file. Same ****.

M$ have removed the control panel option for setting file types by extension and you can no longer do it as far as I can tell.

Does anybody know how to fix this mess?

Click start menu > Start typing File Associations, and you'll get a menu item in there.

Uhh.... yeah. Sorry, I have tried that. It doesnt give you an option to do so as it would previously. The option has gone.
You can only associate a program with a file type if the file type exists in that list. Also, that program seems to need to be explicitly installed. So a portable program won't work.

I ended up using This. As there just isnt an option to do it in Windows anymore.
