  • Ubuntu ftp server. newbie.

total linux newbie here. On windows i used many ftp servers and they are basic and easy to setup. make a user, point to folder on drive etc etc.

I dont have a clue how to go about this on ubuntu. i installed vsftpd but i cant see how you give access to folders on another drive etc.

is there a way or a alternative ?

But linux servers are usually used with samba for windows and ssh for linux.

So after installing and setting that up it when ftping in it will see my Samba shares?

Normally the default setup allows FTP access to the home directory of the FTP account used. Assuming permissions are OK, you could probably just add a symbolic link in that home directory to the folders you have shared out via smb.
