    • Finally got another 10k payment, that took about 36 hours or so!

I'm still concerned that the 290X is capped/throttling at 850/860 kh/s - temps are causing a few problems with it running 24/7 (lose connection on teamviewer and system locks) but the old case (500R) only has a few working fans running off the headers at the moment so it's not quite as cool as it could be. I'll invest in a cheap 5-way fan controller tomorrow and see if that helps.

        • The front 2 intakes are Akasa Apache's which are powerful and a little loud at full tilt, i'd prefer them to be adjustable so they are on fill tilt when I'm not at home and run a little quieter when I'm in bed.

          • Is it a reference 290x?.

Pretty much everyone i know that got one has had issues with throttling when mining, they just get too hot.

            • Its a twin Frozr one which is fairly quiet but when mining at full intensity - the temps float around 82-83c and as soon as it hits 85-86 the intensity drops and the system crashes so I need better air flow to keep it around 80c

That the MSI one? If so I've got that and mine is running at a near constant 94C which means it is throttling. I've even underclocked it to 900 GPU and still hitting high temps.

TBH it means I'm losing about 100H/s but got my 6790 running along side it (hence the temp problems) which means overall I'm getting more hash etc. But have to be honest I was very disappointed after spending the extra on the MSI custom card (supposedly) to find temps so high.

I've got 2 fans on front maxed, fan on rear maxed and a massive fan blowing air out of the top maxed. Nothing else I can really do tbh.

                • If I put the card in my Air 540, temps are around the low to mid 70's so I think its an airflow problem inside the 500R as not all of the fans are on and running (for now). It's a cheap fix tbh

i'm quite pleased i never got that now, MY 290 tri-x in the top slot runs at 66c and my 290x with the gelid cooler sitting in the lower slot on my case runs at 60c, Both the noise levels are good on.
I would have thought the twin frozr would be the better cooler rather than mine
