  • Last night was brutal, after a spin class on Tue, and prior a roadbike ride, legs were still sore, so fancied a flat out leg stretch run.

Ride to Bolly Bridge and back, 25 miles, with an idea to warm up, and find a good pace at 14-15mph.

Mike was on fire, and up to 18mph a few miles in, with some slowing for gates, and other trail users, which were the only respite, pretty much held 18-19mph for long stretches, couldn't drop back as that would be game over, so held the wheel for the full 12.5 mile outward trip. Legs were on fire, managed to stabilise heartrate once settled in by pushing a harder gear, and ignoring the concrete being slowly pouring down each femur bone

Refuelled at the bridge, then did the return trip, which has a slight slight decline, at an even quicker pace, hitting 22mph pace on one section. Swapped pacemaker on the way back, alternating between the x3 of us to lead the pelaton. A random 4th rider tagged on and enjoyed the EasyAirChair ® draft action

RUINED! Was great though. Longest night ride to date, and fastest 40k to date.

Bits aren't too good but the next two models up i would still change parts anyway, may as well get a whole bike when the frame is only £200 less

My best mate has just gone and done similar. Got himself a mondraker vantage for £899 it has tektro brakes and suntour xcm cranks and acera gearing. So he's gonna transfer his slx groupset and formula brakes from his old bike on to it. Was much better value than buying the next model up at twice the price and still needing to change some bits to be happy.

          • An MOT was due, so the hateful golf was dropped off last night and Whytney was ridden home.
Commuted to work on her too and rather than take the direct route home I went and doubled the distance with some tower on the hill action.

Put some air in the tyres, upped the rather squidgy 24psi to a road rolling 30psi.
Whytney felt so bumpy! My thought was the rear sus wasn't working as it should, but I eventually decided that an extra few psi makes a massive difference.
My face palm moment was to realise that I had my whole uniform and everything in a ruck sack. So I was a few kilos heavier than normal.
I'm sure it was this that was affecting the suspension. Certainly coupled with the firmer tyre pressures the levels of plushness felt reduced.

The last thing that was interesting is that I struggled to get my heart rate above 160bpm.
It was my legs slowing me down, not my ticker. This is in contrast to my last few outings with Coiler, where my legs felt fine, it was the ticker that let me down.
Basically, I think I'm over the flu I had in march. Finally.

No pics, but I'm pleased to have got some miles on the board.

            • About time!

              Chaz and Cru are back

I run with 35 psi normally, even on mount famine type peak rocky action, although never use lockout, she's either in trail, or anything remotely chaffy descend mode for max plush.

Can imagine a heavy rucksack would ruin it a lot too, as I recall how much difference tweaking the PSIs made when first getting Whytney

                • Chasing the missus on the Ebike last night, glorious evening, and once the hills got steeper didn't have a chance, especially in Turbo and Sport mode, left for dust

20 mile ride and still had 50% battery left, and that was with some serious Turbo abuse

Already had quite a few goes round the local streets etc and its crazy, 15mph up hill, zero effort, but this is just a mediocre hill really.

Didn't have a go last night on the Peak hills though, last nights ride was 2000ft and all the initial climbing was still a question of will it make it to Inn for a Coke and back on one battery charge, as range readout was all over the shop, was a bit like playing low fuel bingo.

When she was Turbo-ing up the steepest stuff range fell from 39 to 11 miles, then once back in Eco mode at the top increased again, then after some downhills increased again. so didn't want to do any troll test sprints, and leave missus with no assistance to get home on lolz.

Now we know battery has tons O range, next outing gonna try it on the steepest part of a cat3

                              • Tis a Raleigh Captus, did you see pics a few pages back?

They do a MTB version which is probably more suitable for you, but missus wanted mudgaurds for commuting road slop free + 90% of use is commuting.

Although there are probably tons of other more "street cred" brands than Raleigh, it ticked all the boxes with good components, VS the halfords tat.
