So glad I went out first thing

Was horrendous even then though - blowing a gale and sleet to the face - lovely natural shower

Few tweaks needed to my back end as a few slippages when in top gear and a few instances of having to double press the shifter to shift gear - fettling definately required

It was getting so bad that I missed off the last bit of the loop, hence the 18 instead of 21 miles, lack of pace and pictures - just wanted to get home !

The one pic i took was of my sodden shoes

                • Some fettling got done this morning (Not by me, the bro-inlaw) and looks like the bike is ready to ride again. The gears are shifting properly and no god awful squeel that I can hear.

Will need to get out on a ride to make sure it's all good, but unfortunately not going to be today.

                  • Anyone here heard of The Fred Whitton Challenge? I hadn't untill my bro-inlaw mentioned that he applied to do it got accepted.
A quick look google/look on their site and glad it's not me doing it as fun as it sounds.

The Fred Whitton Challenge is one of the most popular sportives in the UK and is also famed as being particularly difficult. Riders rank it alongside European events such as the Marmotte in terms of difficulty.

The Fred Whitton Challenge consists of a 112 mile sportive around the Lake District, starting at Grasmere and taking in climbs of Kirkstone, Honister, Newlands, Whinlatter, Hardknott & Wrynose passes.
As the name suggests, it is run in honour of Fred Whitton. Fred, who died aged just 50 in 1998, was an extremely popular member of the Lakes Road Club.
The very top riders complete the route in just under six hours but eleven hours and over are not uncommon for the average Sportive rider. This is a very tough route and going on rider feedback the hardest one day ride in the UK, the event includes all the Lakeland passes, one with a 30% gradient and this comes at 98 miles.

No idea, can't see a number listed anywhere for the climbs.

Maybe this google earth 3D flyby will help though?

                          • All distance and no climbing it seems, sticking to the foothills, guess they can't go up the mountains round there on roadbikes though as some proper gnar stuff which would rip em apart.

I'd be more angry with the damage to the giant road bike, 4-5ks worth
