  • Spec me a 850w psu?

Hi guys, so unfortunately my current PSU isn't cutting it with my GPU apparently, as its can't deal with the sustained draw of it under load. SO, somebody spec me a 850w psu? I know this is far more than necessary, this is so that should I decide to add a second 290 at a later date I don't have to get yet another PSU, and also so that I can just carry the PSU through to future builds.

I have some knowledge of PSU's but not I'm not to familiar with the modular design ones. I'd ideally like to have at least a semi modular PSU just for the sake of being a bit tidier with the cables, I think I might get a h440 at the same time (I have been meaning to get a bigger case for a while).

Any particular brands/models that spring to mind?

It would depend entirely on your budget. I've used the EVGA SuperNOVA G2 750W before and it was a solid, solid PSU. I can't fault it at all. I've also had a Corsair RM750 which I couldn't fault either. Out of the two, I'd get the EVGA because of the 10 year warranty - that sells it to me and it is also made with high-end, quality components.

Pros of the unit also include fully black cables, so no more of the multicoloured wires floating around; and it's also fully modular.

It looks like they've added slightly more choice now, as they have both gold and platinum rated units. (G is gold, and P is platinum ... easy, huh?)

No such thing. More is always better for a variety of reasons, longevity of the unit, heat/noise levels, future proofing and so on

I've got a Seasonic 860W platinum, which is epic, but expensive. I'm a big believer in not cheaping out on PSUs though.

The EVGA PSUs are also excellent, they are based on the SuperFlower 'Leadex' platform and they are a trustworthy OEM. JohnnyGuru liked them, that's good enough for me.

About 5 years ago I went all or nothing on a 1200W Gold rated PSU because I was spending a fortune with PSU upgrades to keep up with system upgrades (400w, 500w 600w, 800w, 1000w) so I went all out and its not something I have to think about any more unless something goes wrong with it

EXACTLY my reasoning for getting "more than necessary"

The EVGA unit looks very tempting, I'll have to decide if I want to buy the H440 as well then place an order I think, thanks all

EDIT: Looks like the gold unit is out of stock and Aria don't have the blue H440, any idea who I should speak to regarding that?

The XFX XTR 850W for 74.00 is a very good price for a very good psu. It is a Seasonic made unit based on the Seasonic G series.
