  • PSU recommendation please

Had a phone call from my brother saying he's turned his computer, heard a pop, it's taken out the ring main on his fuse box and after resetting it the computer now does nothing when trying to turn it on.

So I'm assuming his PSU has gone, he's going to want a replacement as cheap as possible but not a cheap make, so really I need help on what is the lowest wattage he can get away with.

    I believe his spec is.

    Q6600 @ 3.6
    4gb ram
    9800 gtx+
    Single hdd
    And air cooled

    What do you think?

It's a corsair unit in there now but I think postage on RMA(if in warranty) might be as much as a new PSU

imo avoid the new corsair units, they coasting on past glory these days.

coolermaster b series are ok cheap units it seems.

400 if its a decent brand.

EDIt: If hes not bothered about modular any of these should be ok

You might just about get away with the last one at 350w

Do you mind me asking which variety of Corsair PSU went pop? I am betting CX variety?

EDIT 2: The third one linked might be perfect actually, it boasts peak power output at 400w, or 350 continuous, should be enough.

Thanks for those, Computer is quite old now, I'm guessing a 4-5 years and going from memory it was corsair with a blue label around 500-600w which I think would have made it a TX range. Im popping over tomorrow to rip out the PSU and test it and check warranty situation.

I'd look at the XFX Core unit. I've got one in our server and it is whisper quiet, and made by Seasonic as far as I know. Great unit for the price.

Second this, these are my go-to PSUs at the moment as they are a cheap option for quality seasonic OEM PSUs.
